The New Zealand fur seal is easy to spot with its pointy nose, massive whiskers, visible ears and luxurious fur coat which is a brown colour but looks grey/black when wet.
The mother seemed to be doing a bit of discipline training to her pup, it was so fun to watch.
We took heaps of seal photos - I've a real love of seals. I love folklore of any kind - but especially of selkie-folk.. If a woman wishes to make contact with a selkie male, she needs seven tears to drop in the sea. If a man steals a female selkie's skin she becomes powerless and is forced to become his wife but she will have such a longing for the sea. The man will often hide or even burn her skin as if she finds it she will put it on and return to the sea leaving any children behind.
